Ontario is quite strict at 70% VLT for front side windows, which is nearly clear and means virtually no aftermarket film will pass legally on the front. The rear and back side windows have no restriction on darkness for any vehicle type, giving you a lot of creative room in the back. Notably there is no medical exemption available here for front windows, which is one of the few places in North America where that's the case.

Front side windows need a minimum of 70% VLT. Back side windows require any darkness, and the rear window requires any darkness.
The VLT limits are the same for both body styles. A sedan in Ontario needs 70% VLT on the front side windows, any darkness on the back side windows and any darkness on the rear window. An SUV, van or pickup needs 70% VLT on the front side windows, any darkness on the back side windows and any darkness on the rear window. Side mirrors required if rear tinted.
A first offense is typically CAD $110 set fine. Repeat offenses can cost Up to CAD $500. Fix-it tickets are available, giving you time to remove or replace the film.
Your car's factory glass already blocks some light (usually around 70-80% VLT). When you add tint film, the combined VLT is lower than the film alone. For example, 35% film on 75% factory glass gives you about 26% combined VLT. The calculator above does this math for you.
