Open the trunk and look in the spare tire well area or on the inside of the trunk lid. There's a service sticker with a barcode and multiple lines of codes. The paint code starts with L and is 4 characters total. On the Q5, Q7, and Q8, the sticker is on the inside of the tailgate or the trunk floor.
On the A3 and A4, the sticker is sometimes on the inside of the trunk lid. On the e-tron, check under the cargo floor cover. It's always in the trunk area somewhere.
Audi is part of the Volkswagen Auto Group (VAG) and shares the L-prefix paint code system with VW and Porsche. Codes look like LY9B (Ibis White), LX7R (Daytona Gray), or LZ9Y (Mythos Black). The L stands for Lack, German for lacquer.
Audi's standard palette usually has 10 to 15 colors per model, but the Audi Exclusive program lets you order almost any color imaginable. Exclusive colors use the same L-code format but with unique codes that don't appear in the standard catalog.
Since the code system is shared with VW, a code like LY9B is Ibis White on an Audi and Oryx White on a VW. Same paint formula, different name. Any paint supplier can match either brand from the same code.
Not every Audi puts the code in the same spot. Here's where to look for each model:

In the trunk area. Open the tailgate and check the inside of the tailgate panel, the trunk floor, or the spare tire well. Look for a sticker with a 4-character code starting with L, like LY9B or LX7R.
Yes. Both brands use the VAG L-code system. LY9B is Ibis White on an Audi and Oryx White on a VW, but the formula is identical. You can use the same code at any paint supplier for either brand.
Audi Exclusive is a custom paint program that offers colors outside the standard lineup. These use the same L-code format but with unique codes. If your code doesn't appear in any standard Audi color chart, it's likely an Exclusive order.
L stands for Lack, the German word for lacquer or paint. Every Audi paint code starts with L followed by 3 more characters. It's the same system used across all Volkswagen Group brands.
