This is where Porsche gets tricky. The option sticker (also called the specification plate) can be in the trunk, the glove box, the center console lid, or on the driver's door jamb. It depends on the model and year. On the 911, check the trunk (frunk) area or the driver's door jamb. On the Cayenne and Macan, try the driver's door jamb or glove box.
If you can't find the sticker, check the owner's manual or the service booklet. Porsche often includes a full option list there. Alternatively, any Porsche dealer can look up every option code including the paint color using your VIN.
Porsche paint codes are listed as option codes on the vehicle's specification sticker. The codes vary in format: some are short like 1A (Guards Red), 2T (Jet Black Metallic), or C9Z (GT Silver Metallic), while others are longer alphanumeric codes. The format isn't as standardized as most brands, which can make it confusing.
Porsche also offers Paint to Sample (PTS), a program where you can order virtually any color. PTS colors have unique codes that don't appear in any standard chart. If your Porsche has an unusual color, it might be a PTS order and the dealer is your best bet for identifying the exact formula.
Since Porsche is part of the Volkswagen Group, some standard colors share VAG L-codes with VW and Audi. But on the Porsche sticker itself, the color is listed as an option code, not the L-code.
Not every Porsche puts the code in the same spot. Here's where to look for each model:

Porsche puts the option sticker in different locations depending on the model: trunk, glove box, center console, or door jamb. There's no single standard spot like most brands. Check all four locations or call the dealer with your VIN.
Try the trunk (frunk) area first, then the driver's door jamb. On some 911 generations it's on the inside of the trunk lid. If you still can't find it, check the glove box or the owner's manual.
Paint to Sample (PTS) lets you order a Porsche in almost any color, including colors from other brands or Porsche's own heritage palette. PTS colors have unique codes and the formula is stored in Porsche's system. A dealer can look it up from your VIN.
Internally, yes. Some Porsche colors share VAG L-codes with VW and Audi. But on the Porsche itself, the color is listed as an M-option code, not the L-code. A paint supplier can cross-reference both systems.
